3.5 stars This review is only for the pasta and chicken entree. I am definitely going back soon to try their pies, salads and seafood offerings. Good: Neighborhood gem serving traditional family style Italian food. This place is known for its pies and seafood and silly us, we ordered chicken Alfredo Pasta and Chicken with Mushroom. Once seated we were served warm baked bread which was so flavorful, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. We enjoyed the bread with some olive oil. Portion sizes: Entrees and pasta dishes can easily feed 3-4 people. Vibe: All the servers look straight out of the Goodfellas movie :) super slick gelled hair and speaking in fluent italian. Next to a great dessert place that opened up just 6 months back and a homemade gelato store right across the store. ======================================================== Dishes we ordered: - Chicken Alfredo Pasta: had grilled chicken with fettuccine in Alfredo sauce. The dish was very one note and i didn't enjoy it very much. It wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. - Chicken with mushrooms in lemon sauce: This was a a tasty dish, but floating in a lot of butter and oil. The mushrooms used were canned and not fresh so one star knocked down. The dish also had some wilted greens as well, which actually i was glad about, since both he dishes that we ordered were totally lacking vegetables and crunch of any kind. Tables next to us ordered mostly pies, salads and seafood. I think those are better options than getting chicken entrees and pastas. I will definitely go back for them. Bad: may get crowded on weekends, but that is a good sign of a restaurant serving good food :) Ugly: nothing.

Wowzers!! This place is absolutely delicious. I've been here a few times and have never had a disappointing meal. Their pizza is delicious and just the perfect crispy crust. Their salads are huge and filled of big pieces of chicken and tomatoes, etc. Its a great size for two people. In my most recent visit we went for a family celebration and they were able to sit a family of 7 right away. **NOTE** we also came in at 5:30pm and beat the crowd. This place gets packed quickly! They have a great selection of wine and beers. Started off with their yummy bread and oil and it was heaven. The bread is crunchy and a great texture of softness inside. We ordered the calamari and octopus as appetizer. Both really great and perfectly cooked. I order their oven baked salmon with salad. It was sooo yummy and such a large portion. I highly recommend this place to others. Worth the money and even wait depending on what time you show up.

The food is amazing: fresh, authentic, large portions. The menu was very simple, and the flavors immense. Our table got the veal ptarmigan, tortellini, ravioli, and spaghetti with meatballs. One of the plates, the pasta was a little hard, but the rest were great. I really recommend the tortellini, it was filled with meat, and had a huge dollop of riccotta in the center. A great find, thanks to yelp!

Who knew Bergen Line had the best pizzeria/Italian restaurant?? I love this place. It's located right on the corner of Bergen Line Ave, across the street from the park. Street parking only. Okay now for the food!!! Amazing. First of all, I've never had better bread to start at a restaurant. They automatically give you olive oil, buttah and parm cheese. What, are they reading my mind? My fav thing to do is put olive oil on my plate and then put parm cheese on top and dip my hot warm fresh bread in that. Give me some wine and that...and I'm happy!!! They have a very nice wine selection for moderate prices...and who doesn't love that?? I had the Sorrentina pizza and it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. If you love prosciutto like I do...this pizza is a must try. The pizza has a nice amount of cheese-just enough but too much to make the pizza soggy. The pizza is topped with arugula, cherry tomatoes and a HUGE slice of the gift from God (yes, I mean prosciutto). So yum. I got a small for $12.95 and 6 nice size slices was enough to fill up two people plus an app. We tried the grilled calamari ($12.95) which was a HUGE portion! I kept on saying "this is so tender!!!" Because it was...melt in your mouth with a delish flavor. Highly recommend. With all of that said I will be back VERY shortly!!!! Very impressed with this place :)

Was very disappointed with the food we ordered to take out. The grilled octopus tasted burnt and was rubbery, the pictures made it look juicy and succulent however what we got was burnt and rubbery, all in all I unfortunately ate one small octopus and had to throw it all away. We will not order from there again.

Great little place next to the Hudson park.nice place to eat after you had a long walk at the park.the ambience is cosy.great food.we ordered a half and half of pizza margherita and trecolore pesto and a lobster ravioli. The pizza was hot and fresh with nice crust and fresh cheese. Ravioli had a good taste of fresh lobster meat.all the food have great sauce.they bake their own bread which is fantastic to eat when waiting for your food.extensive choice of beer and wine available.good customer service.I'm taking away one star off because of the toilet and overall hygeine(pizza was replaced because it came with a fly) but otherwise a five star eatery.

Cant get enough of this place. Comfort food at its best. The house made pizza is a great way to start. Def try the tortellini with fresh ricotta and the lasagna. Great service too. The place is always packed but the wait is never too long. Our go-to for quality Italian food. And that skirt steak ;)

Awesome italian place with great pasta, a nice wine and beer selection, and a cozy atmosphere. Their pizza is pretty up there in my book but not the best i've ever had. I've heard their tiramisu is incredible so i will definitely order it next time. Their appetizers were great, i shared the rice balls and ate every crumb! Great place for a date night or a small(ish) family dinner :)

La Sorrentina is by far, one of my favorite brick oven pizza and trattorias!! It can get a lil crowded because of course...everyone loves this place too! The service is always great, the food is amazing and overall, its just a friendly place. Calamari is always on point! Mini calzones are not only adorable but they're also super delicious!! The Mussels in red sauce are out of this world. Their red sauce with anything is my favorite to be honest lol its light and fresh. Less is always better and thats what they do! Love it!! My favorite pizza of course the margarita and arugula and prosciutto. Simple. Delicious! The ONLY reason that they lose a star is because i dont like their rice balls. I just dont like them. And that makes me sad because i love everything else and you dont make good rice balls. Damn you. MAKE BETTER RICE BALLS.

Authentic Italian food in a quaint, casual, friendly atmosphere. Molto Buona! Located on Bergenline ave, just across from beautiful North Hudson Braddock Park, sits the perfect little piece of southern Italy. Everything here is tasty and fresh. The service has always been exceptional. I love that it is very laid back, casual, and delicious. I used to live just across the park from Sorrentina, and used to come at least two to three times per month. It was always my go-to place when family and friends came to visit, or just when I was in the mood for some amazing brick oven pizza. Everything is good here. Over the years I have tried most of their pizza toppings, the fried calamari, mussels, lasagna, penne with vodka, chicken parm, lobster ravioli, and lots more. I have never been disappointed. Sadly, I didn't discover my favorite dish there until I was only a few months from moving away from the area, but at least it gives me something to come back for. They have the best grilled octopus that I have ever had! It is so tender and tasty with just the right amount of acid. lately whenever we are in the area running errands, we stop here just for the octopus, regardless of the time or what our actual dinner plans might include. Amazing!

penne with chicken ordered the chicken was burned the waitress appeared at the end of the meal the bread was the only good

I kinda hate myself for giving sorrentina 4 stars. The food is without any doubt worth 5 stars, wish I could say the same about the service. Came on a cloudy wednesday afternoon. Ordered the eggplant appetizer and a 1/2 sorrentina 1/2meatball pizza. The pizza was so freaking enjoyable, I only had the meatball. My friend loved the sorrentina slices. Our waiter was kinda rude. Not sure how else to put it. Barely acknowledged us, super dry and seemed annoyed the entire time. For that I have to rate this fabulous, amazing establishment 4 stars. It's actually a disgrace to the food.... Hoping to return and update but for now can't say it was the best experience.

Portion is really generous for the price! We came here on a Saturday morning where the restaurant looks to be just open. We got mixed seafood spaghetti in spicy tomamto sauce and skirt steak with salad and French fries. Both dishes are good. The only complaint is that the cumcumber in salad is not very fresh looking but otherwise all good. Would come back and really want to try their pizzas as the table next to us ordered it and smells really good.

Loved the food and pleasant setting. Started off with an order of mussels which could have fed four people. The bread basket to start is crisp and yummy. Trick is save it for dipping into the bowl of mussels which rang true with a classic red sauce. Very special. Filled with lots of garlic and so satisfying. The clay pots kept the food hot and even though it took a few minutes to dig down and finish the mussels and dip everything through the sauce it was still steaming hot. For entrees we ordered a pasta with cherry tomatoes and basil which was sooooo good. I ordered the braccoli rage with sausages which was pitch perfect. Made it halfway through both dishes before we ran up the red flag and paused. Had a little bit more but couldn't finish if we tried. No room left but the pizza pies were spot-on (we've had it recently and its ridiculously good). Desserts looked good. Wine was priced very reasonably at $8 a glass, beer was a little high ($7 a bottle). Service was very, very good. No wait on a Saturday night at peak-time. Only caveat is parking is a hassle but a little patience comes in handy. It's in the middle of "nowhere" but well worth the effort. Really terrific meal and can't wait to go back.

I've eaten here for lunch a few times and the food is delicious. I normally grab food with coworkers and order their over sized sandwiches or pizza pies. I'd had the basic margarita pizza as a Sicilian and its amazing. Their chicken parm sandwich is the best i've had and is extremely large in a pocket bread. Eat with caution because you will be full - quickly.

One of my favorite places in the area for Italian food. Had the Pizza monte (mozzarella sausage and broccoli rabe) and it was very good. My dinner companion had the chicken francese and ordered penne mixed in with the sauce. I tasted her pasta; it was properly al dente. It's a small place and a bit noisy. All in all a wonderful little neighborhood place!

The best service! The best pizza I ever had! Will definitely be back many times to try other dishes!

Went here on Sunday around noon. Nice atmosphere, we sat in the back, quite corner. Attentive stuff, orders came out quick. You can taste that the pasta is fresh, kind of a chewy feeling. Pizza was made to order, nice amount of toppings. Desserts are also good, they are kind of pre made somewhere else, but tasted delicious. Highly recommended! Nice job!

Pizza was to die for. Ordered the margherita pizza and OMG, so good! It was abt 11$ for 6 slices. Also ordered the gnocchi with mozzarella. First time eating it. Very good. Huge portion. Next time we are ordering less food to be able to order desert also. We left this place stuffed and had to take some of it to go.

We went to La Sorrentina Saturday night. This place was extremely busy. This is a casual restaurant without parking. Parking is on the streets with the meters (be prepared to have quarters). The service was very good. The food was OK. Portions were large. The mussels in red sauce were very good. Food was fresh. What I do not like, food "swam" in a red sauce. This is not my favorite version of Italian food. Affordable prices. I won't be back again.

Two words: Amalfi Panini Do yourself a favor and order this!! Everything is fresh and delicious, especially the mozzerella, and I've never had a bad experience.

This place is STILL knocking out of the DAM park. AMAZING PIZZA! AMAZING SEAFOOD and one thing I over looked on my last review the SERVICE WAS INCREDIBLE! Jersey is no slouch when it comes to Italian place. Ridiculous sized portions. TOTALLY fair prices and EVERYTHING they make is TOP TOP TOP notch. I wish I could give them SIX STARS.

Great food! Awesome pizzas!! Have been coming here for years. Very affordable. They have a very varied menu. And the servers are very nice and fast.

Decided to go for dinner with my wife and kids. The pizza, I'd have to say decent at that. The fried calamari however were very good. Not too bad of a wait time. The service was not the beat but also not the worst. I did think it was overpriced for what we received. Maybe I just set my expectations too high given their great reviews on the pizza.

After living in the area for most of my life, I am astounded that I haven't come across this place earlier. It was first recommended to my last year by a close friend and since then Sorrentina has become my go-to Italian food/pizza place. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, wonderful service, and amazing food. Normally I pick up a pie (or 2!), but recently I've had the fish of the day (I was sharing with a pescatarian) and it was quite good. Pros: Excellent service Pizza (Quattro Stagiones and Sorrentina are my faves) Seating and atmosphere is very cozy yet spacious. Love the decor and mini murals in the walls. Good portions-- not too big, bt good for sharing. Cons: Parking is difficult, they only have street parking and two spots in front of green-doored garage.

Good food very cozy great place over all. A bit pricey for a pizza spot, very good wine and beer selection. Pizza was amazing.

Still the best Italian restaurant around. From the bread at the start to the coffee and desert. All of the pizzas are outstanding. My favorite is Don Antonio. Made with red onions and fresh tomatoes. The seafood and pasta is to die for. I normally take some home and want to eat it as soon as I arrive. Love the tripe, the gnocchi, the eggplant for appetizer, arugula salad, tiramisu, dude; there is nothing bad in the menu. This is my favorite place period.

    (5)
  • Jessica R.

Came here for the calamari and mussels which did not disappoint. Service was nothing special. But the best part of the experience- the tiramisu! My advice is to definitely make some room for dessert. I believe it's homemade because I never tasted tiramisu as delectable as the one here. So yummy, I will definitely be coming back to try a pasta dish and the margarita pizza.

This place is incredible. Nestled in the Heart of North Bergens center of town. Everything from the fresh bread to the apps to the main entrees was incredible. The muscles and calamari was out of this world. The margherita pizza was phenomenal and the tiramisu was heaven on earth. Highly recommended, also great wine selection!

Always love this place, not only the awesome food, but also very friendly staff. Anyhow had an unpleasant dining experience this week. The waitress served our table was careless: Forgot to bring out our appetizers until main courses were on the table; Nowhere to be found when we needed something a couple of times; added automatically 18% tip on the bill. Guessed she was only expecting tips with no service provided. Hope she only worked that night as a fill-in.

Hands down, pizza Sorrentina is the most delicious pizza I've ever tried in my life. This is an outstanding Italian restaurant. Me and my husband are regular customers and every time we come our experience is a blast! All of the employees are super friendly and make us feel as if we are part of family. Great and fast service! Pleasant casual ambience and consistent quality of great food.

My friends invited the bf and I to dinner here and I can't believe it's taken me this long to eat here! Food was incredible. Basically had to be rolled out of there. The service was quick and pleasant and easy on the eyes. To start we got the Sorrentina pizza (prosciutto was delicious) and mussels. For our entrees, I ordered the spaghetti ai sapori di mare for dinner which was phenomenal. The portions were huge. Everyone else got the gnocchi, ribeye and a fish special. For dessert we all split the tiramisu and bomba. The tiramisu was some of the best I've ever tasted Im not sure what made it different but I wanted more! The boys cleaned their plates the girls had leftovers but everyone left happy & full. Can't wait to go back!

Called in an order for pick up for a large Margherita pie and fried calamari. The food was cold once I got back to my house, which is only a five minute drive. The calamari was soggy and under cooked. Besides the pizza being cold it did taste good. The calamari was a disapointment.

Was very happy to find this little place. I had bunsiess the next day nearby and was able to get in diner here. The gilled octopus was fantastic.. grilled zucchini and potatoes with octopus with a lemon and olive oil dressing, could have used a little more salt, but still killer. Portion was huge. Same with fehttuchini with Bolognese.. great food and massive portions. Expect to share or get full on one plate.

The pizza is delicious. I even had it cold on my drive to Canada today. I will be back for take out, dine in, or whenever. 5 stars hands down

Amazing brick oven pizza! Great sandwiches, fresh homade bread. Order the baby octopus it won't dissapoint. Be careful on the weekends it does get crowded but it's worth the wait. Enjoy!

I've been here a bunch of times now and this is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in North Bergen quite possibly in New Jersey. Caesar salad is fresh and tasty with real anchovy taste. The mussel appetizer is fantastic. The mussels are plump and the broth is delicious (save your bread to dip into this). I don't find myself "craving" things but Sorrentina's eggplant is crave worthy. It's not that thick breaded thin slice of frozen eggplant most NY/NJ "ristorante's" use. They use fresh thick cuts of eggplant with a very thin breading which they cook to perfection. Combined with their sauce and a heavy coat of cheese (and if ordered as a sandwich as opposed to the appetizer) on a nice toasty thick round bread. I always found myself getting the Orecchiete entree (cause it's so friggin good). Yummy Broccoli Rabe with slivers of fresh garlic and sausage in a buttery white wine sauce (what's not to love). I've recently made it a point to not order it even though I love it just to try new things. Recently I've tried the Gnocchi, Capese, Bolognese, and Boscaiola. All were delicious...all cooked perfectly. The pizza is also a triumph. If you are torn with which to try you can order a large (maybe even a small; two sizes no medium...although the small isn't small) and have them half it. We normally order a half Quattro Formaggi (four cheese) and half Sorrentina (cherry tomato, arugula, and prosciutto). Pizza's are rectangular with a thinner crust cooked in their wood burning stove. Complaints; why the four (not five) stars: Service is very hit or miss. If they are slow it's awesome, well the personality of the servers and the attentiveness improves tenfold. Where they fail, if they are slow, is pacing of the meal. Last time we were there our app came out after three bites of salad, then half way through our app our entrees came out. Now if busy (and they usually are) service is quick, impersonal and prepare to be ignored (maybe have your drink run out with out a quick refill, or not have someone come over to ask how everything is) however, the pacing of the meal is much better often perfect. A true 4 1/2 if that was a option.

By far one of the best Italian Spots that I've eaten at. The staff is so friendly it feels like you're at Sunday dinner with your family. The food came out quickly and I didn't have to wait for a table for more than five minutes. However, I recommend if you are going with a larger group to call ahead if you can. I had the fried calamari and their Margherita pizza and ugh! It was to die for!

This restaurant has been a local charm for many many years but I have no idea why I never stepped in. I finally went on Sunday and I cannot believe how amazing this place is. The food is top notch, the service is exquisite and I love their homemade tiramisu. Will I go there again? ABSOLUTELY

  • Johnny C.

Worst hospitality EVER. Granted they do close at 10pm and my girlfriend and I got there at 9:42, but when I walked in I ask the guy if we can still order pizza he just says "Nah the kitchen is closed", very short and just turned away. I've been to many places and they at least offer an apology and a "Hey but listen we really look forward to you coming back during normal hours and we'll take care of you, sorry for that." HORRIBLE customer service, horrible...

I had this placed bookmarked "to try" after reading some of the reviews on Yelp. We decided last night to venture to North Bergen and give it a try. Some of the reviews had stated this place gets crowded, that being said we intentionally got there a little early to beat the rush. Saturday night we arrived about 5pm and were seated immediately. This place has the old school pizza-restaurant feel, it's nice sized and appeared clean. We were immediately brought menus and were overwhelmed by the amount of food choices that we actually wanted to try. The waiter came over and took drink orders, My Wife ordered a glass of wine, i had a summer-ale that the waiter suggested and my daughter opted for water. We were then brought over a basket of homemade, warm rolls w/ butter. There was also awesome olive oil and pepper on the table. The bread was really enjoyable w/ the pepper and EVOO. We decided on grilled baby octopus and fried calamari for apps. For entrees my Daughter ordered a pannini w fresh mozzarella, prosciutto and tomato, My Wife ordered pasta w/ sausage, onion and mushrooms in a cream sauce and I ordered angel hair pasta (capellini) with seafood. The apps came out rather quickly, both were big portions, the calamari was cooked perfectly, not chewy at all or overly breaded, a nice marinara sauce for dipping accompanied the platter. The octopus were grilled perfectly and really tender, they were lemony and smokey tasting,so good, underneath was a few grilled potato and zucchini slices that were sitting in all the juices, damn they were good too. Now the entrees start to come out, the apps weren't even done and we were full already, this is the problem w/ this place, big portions, we know for next time to order less My daughter's pannini was the size of a Frisbee, my Wife's pasta dish could've easily been shared by the table and mine was bigger than the both. Unfortunately my daughter only ate 1/4 of her sandwich and my Wife and i barely made a dent in our dishes. They were both really good, we were just too full at this point. My pasta dish was loaded w/ clams, mussels, calamari and shrimp, all cooked perfectly, the pasta was aldente as it should always be, the broth at the bottom was heavenly, as full as i was i had to dip bread in it, i wanted to wash my face in it but my Wife thought it to be inappropriate.... All in all, i have no complaints, the bill was $92 but was worth every cent, we ate and drank and left feeling full and satisfied with doggie bags. The service was really good and as stated in other reviews, just as we were finishing up, this place got super crowded. We plan on venturing back to try the pizza soon. Go and give a try, you won't regret it!!

Been coming here for years and never wrote a review. I think its time to give this place the credit it deserves. Ive tried so many different things on the menu and it never disappoints. I the chicken parm panini is great and a large serving its good to share with someone and to grab another plate. Another good dish is the enslata vecana. Not sure if I spelled that right its a chicken salad ill post a picture. Last but not least the pizza is excellent too my favourite is the sorrentina pizza. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants good italian food

Really great Italian food. Awesome service. We got the calamari, the chicken with eggplant and mozzarella and chicken parm and loved every bit of it. Huge portions. Comfy and charming restaurant with no snobbiness whatsoever, but also not too loud. We will definitely be back.

Best pizza in North Jersey for sure. I've been coming here for years and never been disappointed. The grilled shrimp & fava bean appetizer is a must every time and so is the baby octopus. Portions are generally huge so order with care.

I was here last night and wasn't completely satisfied the service was good exept because my friend didn't like his food . the server immediately suggested adding cheese to my friend's pizza but my friend does not like cheese. i think if a customer does not like the food as a server u must suggest try something else not to charge your customer and let him without eat while the group was eating :/

I had no idea at the time what a gem this place was, i have been coming back and ordering take out ever since i wrote my 1st review 4 years ago, these guys make the best pizza in the hudson area in NJ, they always get it right and the pizza dough has a crust and the sauce and the cheese they are all in perfect harmony. We really like quattro stagioni, margherita with prosciutto and the calamari are delicious.

Delicious every time! The vodka Belvedere is hands down the best vodka sauce dish EVER. The sauce is flavorful and the prosciutto ads a nice saltiness. Their pizza is also excellent, with crispy thin crust and fresh mozzarella. When the pizza is ready, the waiter brings it to your table and serves a slice to each person with flair - definitely a nice touch! Even the free bread basket they give you is notable - bread comes out piping hot and crusty. I've also had their mussels appetizer, which comes in a yummy white wine tomato sauce with slices of garlic. As for extra bread to soak up all the leftover goodness! All around the service and food are fantastic and always a delight. Highly recommend.

Best Italian food around, hands down. Perfect thin crust pizza, great pastas, and calamari/eggplant parm are a couple of standout appetizers. A must try if you're in North Bergen.

La Sorrentina is one of the best Italian restaurant in NJ. I've been to this restaurant numerous times and never been disappointed. Their brick oven pizza is the best!!! We always order basic Margherita, Sorrentina and Pizza Tri Colore. Everything is so delicious, especially, Sorrentina and Pizza Tri Colore are amazing!!! My favorite appetizers are Frittura di Calamari, Cozze Marinara, Parmiggiana di Melenzane, and Insalata Arugula. I always have hard time what to order because everything is so delicious. Guess what. I always come here with many friends and family, so I get to taste everything. And finally, my favorite Primi, Spaghetti ai sapori di mare. Soooo good. Reasonable price, friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I grew up in the Bronx to Italian immigrant parents so to say that I am picky with Italian restaurants is an understatement. I recently moved on the water and was in need of a meal that would remind me of Nonna. I found it! This place is the closet thing I've found to authentic Italian food and never disappoints. Even the older Italian man making the pizza was an added hint of nostalgia. Definitely worth a trip!

My brother and my father took me out to lunch here for my birthday. I live in Hoboken, but we figured the parking would be easier in this area than there. The place was packed and just kept getting busier while we were there, which was a good sign! We ordered a margherita pizza and the fried calamari. Both were delicious. The calamari was just the right amount of breading without being overwhelming. I hate when you go to bite into a piece and all you get is a mouthful of fried breading. The waiter was super (cute) nice, and very attentive, and the prices were very reasonable.

Happened across this gem when another restaurant we were graded to had a ridiculous long wait. Boy was I glad it did. The food was amazing, the waitstaff was friendly and funny and the price was right. You could taste the love in the home made foods, and portion sizes were very generous. If you are in the area, don't walk, run here!!!

Best pizza ever! I have gone to this place for years and it never disappoints. No matter what pizza I try it's never as good as the pizza here. The calamari is also very good and fresh. Let me not forget about the tiramisu! Delicious! Service is always very good. Overall great place to go!

This is hands-down the best pizza in the area. The margarita pie is great, and you got to love it with a pepperoni The spaghetti Bolognese is tasty but not their best dish. That right belongs to the Orhciette with broccoli rabe and sausage

Outstanding. Though I don't live in Jersey, a group of us were hungry for some Italian food, so decided to jump in the car and head across the river, for the real deal. One of us had eaten here before and spoke well of it. It's an area hard to get to from NYC if you don't have a car (though it's on several NJ Transit bus lines) so if you're in NYC keep that in mind. It's a comfortable safe working-class neighborhood, lots of good parking, well-lit and busy at all hours. Lots going on around here, even after dark. The place isn't especially large but it's comfortable and clean. The staff are quick and attentive, and know what they're doing. Unpretentious and efficient. Great menu, something for everyone. We ordered a LOT of food and I sadly didn't take careful notes of what everyone ordered, but we were all delighted with what we respectively ordered. I had the Penne with Broccoli Rabe and Italian Sausage, which I like to get from time to time, and this was hands-down the best I've had anywhere. We ordered a small Margherita pizza as a side, and I sorta wish I'd ordered a whole one just for myself. Soft slightly chewy crust, fresh delicious toppings, and served up unbelievably quickly (and the restaurant was busy too). Again, sorry I can't be more specific about the food except to say it was EXCELLENT and the servings were enormous and there was a ton of leftovers to take home. Great place. Will absolutely come back next time I'm on the other side of the river and hungry.

I've lived in the area for a long time and didn't give this place a try until recently. Wow I was missing out. This place is great! Authentic Italian. I always come here for the pizza. I've tried their spaghetti and meatballs also which was great. Nice staff. Can get busy on weekends so I try to stick to weekdays.

Very disappointing experience! Came here for my birthday as the original restaurant I had planned had a 2-3 hour wait. Thought it might be good because it was packed and had good reviews. Service- 2 star service. The waiter was very rushed and when asking for recommendations just responded "depends on what you like buddy." We were a party of 6 and again was very impolite taking our drink order and again referred to my husband as " hey buddy, what will it be?" Food- I'd rate the food at one star as we ordered an app of fried calamari which was soo white in color it was obvious it was store bought and frozen. Then the table ordered 5 different entrees, of which only one rated their food as acceptable. The rest agreed that it tasted old and with no flavor. Among the entrees ordered were penne vodka, grilled skirt steak, and linguini and seafood. I barely tasted mine and didn't even bother taking it home to see if I could salvage it somehow. Then what finished ruining the experience was the fact that I brought in a fruit tart to cut for my bday, which they brought out tiny tiny slivers of and then said they had served it all. As i said, we were a party of 6, and a tart for 18 servings. Ill let you do the math... Bad food + bad service+ expensive prices + missing fruit tart = me not retuning.

Really good Italian food. This place is a hike from where I live. I am not sure it is worth the 45min drive but if you are in the area it is really good! Very simple setup with just good good food. You feel like a little old Italian grandma is sitting the the kitchen cooking - which is awesome. We had pizza, pasta and a pretty amazing Cesar salad. All of it was great! Worth a visit!

I only had the take out pizza here but thoroughly enjoyed it! When I went to pick up the pie, I was overwhelmed by the display of pizza artistry. I saw large oval pies divided into thirds by toppings. The pride and care that these guys put in their work was pretty nice to see. My humble pepperoni and sausage pizza was light and crispy. The sausage was very flavorful. The pie is comparable to Brooklyn's Pizzeria in Edgewater but crisper and while the sausage is better, the pepperoni at Brooklyn's is thicker cut and tastier imho. I'm coming back for a sit down meal soon.

4.5 stars average!? Let me bring this back to reality. Fettuccine Alfredo that screams bland and mediocrity. Inhumane portions that are meant for small villages to feed off one platter. Pizza that was indeed tasty, I'll give you that. And I was happy to pair it with a Dogfish IPA. But the frittura alla napoletana (rice balls) were FROZEN in the center!! This repulsed me and ruined the rest of the meal. The service was atrocious to top it off, so 1 star for decent pizza and the beer to help me cope with the misery. No thanks, I'll pass.

Love this place- take out and dine in - each time excellent. Particularly love the linguine in white clam sauce which was the best I've had in a long time, shrimp and cherry tomatoes and the pizza! Now that's real pizza! The place is always hopping and busy - despite of that the service is always outstanding, efficient and friendly. Can't go wrong going here!

Best pizza in the upper Hudson county area. I've tried everything from the pizza to the seafood pasta. They have a decent wine selection as well. They have great service. The guys are quick and attentive. It's a small place so it gets packed quickly but the pizza is worth the wait. It's NYC style pizza in jersey.

DIRTY PLACE with RATS & COCKROACHES. Horrible pizza & pasta, horrible service. The waiters charge higher prices than the menu prices and the owners know and do nothing about it but fight with you. Afterwards, I GOT SICK with DIARRHEA & VOMITING and they just hung up on me not even apologizing, how disgusting. DIRTY PLACE + BAD FOOD + BAD SERVICE= NOT RETURNING Does NOT deserve any stars but had to select it in order to post this review, BEWARE and STAY AWAY from this place unless you want to get sick and be on the toilet the whole time, so many other places to go to where you pay the menu price and do not get sick

Absolutely one of our favorite places. Pizza is amazing!!! Same with the pasta. We get takeout almost every Friday. I should have reviewed sooner. If you dine in be prepared to wait. Very popular and I understand why. Staff is fantastic and very friendly. I Love this place. Fantastic. Also the panini's are great and highly recommended. Parking is a little bit of a pain but worth the hassle.

Ok, done, five stars. As I get older, I feel myself getting stingier with the glorious, bright lights of the the 5 glowing red stars but alas, I feel that I must give Tratt La Sorrentina the respect and glory this Italian restaurant deserves. Located on the "strip" in North Bergen this place was bumpin' on a Friday night. It was funny, I called like 8 minutes before I arrived and the guy laughed and said no line, when we arrived there was a wait. But, it was only a few minutes and as you will see well worth it. I was rockin' this dinner date with my man of course and fellow yelpers Austin and Sara K so, Tratt was going to have to impress us tonight and boy did they do that. First, lets talk about the numerous bottles of under $30 wines they had. Sweet. I love me some good wine that won't break the bank and that's what came out. Some excellent wine for $29. Star one well deserved. Then steaming, hot, fresh bread came out while we waited for our food order. The bread had so much crunch on the outside and doughy goodness on the inside it was hard to wait for it to cool down, so I didn't. Star 2. Star 3 came when the small pizza came for the table as an appetizer. We went with the pizza Sorrentina which inolved arugula and prosciutto. The prosciutto was amazing and buttery with no after taste. The pizza, with it's thin crust, delicious and subtle sauce and fresh mozz cheese toppings was amazing (for thin crust). I would definitely get a plain pizza next time so I can actually taste the pizza but, regardless, this was delectable. Now on to the entrees. Winnnnnn. The orchiette with brocolli rabe and sausage was some of the best I have ever eaten. The orchiette were perfectly cooked and seemed freshly made with mounds and mounds of brocolli rabe. There was more rabe than pasta and I loved it. The sausage was a perfect blend of meat and spice and complimented the dish rather than over power it. My man ordered the veal and it was quite delicious as well but, hard to compare anything to that orchiette. It was the clear winner of the night if you ask me. Star 4 is a shining star. This meal didn't end even though we were stuffed to the gills - we went with dessert and this is where that 5th star was earned. Hotdamnthattiramisu was delicious. It didn't even look like cake it was more like a mound of cream with delicious, moist sponginess beneath it, resulting in a perfect meal ender of flavor and richness. Oh did I mention we also went with chocolate covered ice cream balls that were almost as delicious but, one can't beat that home made tiramisu. The bill was completely fair and reasonable for a bottle of wine, pizza, 4 entrees and 2 desserts and 2 doggie bags filled with our leftovers. Great value was icing on the "cake". I look forward to the next time (hopefully not too soon or I will no longer fit in pants) that I can enjoy La Sorrentina and all of its delicious ways! Grazie.

I cannot say enough good things about MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT. The service is amazing the food is amazing everything is simply amazing. Waiters are always super attentive always willing to give recommendations and all around friendly. FOOD IS HEAVEN. If I could only eat from La Sorrentina for the rest of my life I'd be more than happy with that. Their Penne Belvidere and Gnocchi are out of this world and their tri colore pizza is amazing. Even their bread is always so good and fresh. Go here, go here go here. you WON'T be sorry.

MY Gf put me up to this place about 4 years ago because she loves the pizza - let me tell you she was ABSOLUTELY correct. Pizza is awesome ! I don't think I've ever met a pizza that I loved from North Bergen. They all seem to have a cardboard'esque texture and flavor. The locals must have an affinity for this type of pizza in their neighborhood. The Yelpers rate this pretty high, maybe because the pie is expensive or they haven't had pizza outside of North Bergen before. If you're in the area and you want some good pizza, head north to Palisades Park and hit up Donna's for their awesome Sicilian slice.

This place is a gem in the area. It is usually crowded on weekends but I've rarely had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. I have mostly tried their pizza (tri colore is my favorite) and must say each pie I've tasted is delicious. Very fresh and flavorful. I would suggest getting a small pie for 2 people because it is pretty big and you will have leftovers. They have a small selection of craft beers which go well with the pizza.

I love this place! I am actually quite the regular, I come here almost weekly with my dad for Saturday lunch. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but I can tell you the Insalata Vicana is amazing (grilled chicken, avocado, tomato, red onion). The pizza...as authentic as it gets. I've had a couple of other dishes, including the seafood pasta, soup, and the steak sandwich (that is truly a monster of a sandwich and SOOOO DELICIOUS!). Desserts are amazing including tiramisu and cannoli (probably the best cannoli I've had). Service is amazing, we never have to ask for water, napkins, bread, anything. They are very prompt in bringing our food, we hardly have to wait. And they are sure not to stay on top of us every second. I really do like this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Italian food. The prices are decent, but we sometimes find ourselves spending a bit much (considering we do a salad, entree, sometimes 2, 2 desserts, 2 espressos, and a small, sometimes big bottle of wine). That could easily run us $80 or more. But it's worth it so I'm not complaining. :)

Granted this place is rated at 4 1/2 stars but I have been here a few time and service is way less than expected while having an average of 4 1/2 stars. Tonite the place was busy but there is no excuse that when you ask for water when the waiter takes your order, than you get the food with no water, than half way through your food still no water and when you ask for it again you get an attitude. To me the food is about 3 1/2 stars and the service for the most part is 1 1/2 stars. The service here leaves a lot to be desired. Not sure if I ever will patronize this place again.......

4.5 stars. Food and service are really great and you can't beat the prices here. It's your standard Italian-American fare executed really well. And the food reheats pretty well at home. Food: the portions are huge. We shared the mussels to start. The mussel meat is tiny but I like that. It was the biggest mound of mussels I've ever seen. And it was delicious. The sauce is really good, albeit more watery than I've seen at most restaurants. But again, delicious. Sop it up with the house bread they serve you. The house bread is really good too. Not sure if they bake it in house (i assume they do - since they make pizza) but it comes out warm and toasty. PLUS they give you olive oil (and butter), Parmesan, black pepper mill, etc. (other tables had balsamic vinegar, we were happy with the olive oil). The bread could be a little more flavorful but really no complaints since you've got the fixins' to make it to your taste. We also got the pepperoni pizza (small) and penne belvedere (vodka sauce with prosciutto bits and onion). The pizza is great. I was expecting a small personal pie at $11.95 but it's enough to feed two people (and split an app). It's tasty but next time, I'll skip the pepperoni because the pepperoni gives off too much oil/grease for my liking. The penne belvedere was delicious too. I'm not a huge fan of cream sauces so it wasn't anything spectacular for me but my dining partner loved it - definitely a heavy dish. Food is great - just look around to see what others are getting. Service: I like the service here a lot. This place gets packed and the service was still great. Don't expect fine dining level of service because this isn't that place. But you'll receive an attentive enough, non-overbearing service. Our waiter made to check up on us every once in a while and catered to all our requests promptly (pitcher of water, more bread, etc). And this is impressive given the layout. If you go when it's busy, you'll know what I'm talking about. Pizza obstacles everywhere! But this is the service I prefer - I can get all my requests through and actually get them promptly without having conversation interrupted too often. Price: bang for your buck. The portions are huge. $11.95 for a "small" pizza that can feed at least 1.5 people (for the average person without completely stuffing yourself). Can't imagine how big the large is. And mussels - at $12.95, what a bargain. Honestly, we came in starving and probably could have been content sharing the mussels and just bread. We took a lot of food home. Atmosphere: This place gets packed quickly. We've been on a Saturday at around 5:45pm where it was still relatively quiet. Within 5 minutes, there was a crowd around the door. A lot of families (with and without children) come in which makes sense given the pricing and food portions. So it's loud and lively. I think it's a good casual date place but not one if you're looking for an intimate setting.

After four trips to Italy it has been very difficult to want Italian food in this country. It just does not stack up to the flavors of the natural authentic food of Tuscany. That being said, La Trattoria Sorrentina has changed my mind. This restaurant is very good, I have been twice so far and have tried about 6 different dishes, every single thing has been delicious. I highly recommend this place. Favorite dishes have been: Insalata viscana (grilled chicken salad), marguerita pizza, linguini in white clam sauce, and the skirt steak.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would.. My husband heard about this place from his coworker who grew up in town.. We passed it a number of times but you know how it goes.. * oh the carbs* but we decided to go off the carb wagon and went last sat night for my husbands birthday dinner.. we were there early around 5:00.. the place was hopping! we were greeted warmly and sat right away.. our waiter ( sorry forgot his name) brought us warm baked bread that was made in there wood burning pizza oven... I could have just eaten the bread and been happy! was so good.. crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.. we started off with a small pie.. Quattro Stagione it had eggplant /artichokes/mushrooms/prosciutto and of course cheese.. OMG... It was amazing.. the crust was cooked perfectly and it what a difference it makes being cooked in the wood burning ovens! For dinner I had the eggplant parm with spaghetti...The eggplant was cooked perfectly.. and there sauce is the best Iv had out! I was so full and ate the spaghetti the next day and it was the best Iv had.. there sauce is really really good!!! My husband had the spaghetti and clam sauce.. He said it was really good! This is our new place when we want to go off the carb wagon! We live 40 minutes away and would drive here to eat there delicious food!!! Its a gem of a place!!!!

i have only gone here once and the food was good. i had the grillled octopus which was plentyfull and seasoned. the bread is amazing! it was succulent and delicious! i was a little disappointed because i was looking forward to having a calzone, but they dont make them. this and the fact that both their bathrooms out of service made me give them only 3 stars.

Trattoria La Sorrentina is a great italian restaurant hidden away in North Bergen. The pizza and pasta dishes here are top notch. Easily the best pizza I've had in New Jersey. I would come back again and again. Update: Did take out from them a few weeks ago. Make sure to check your pizza before you leave. I made the assumption that my pizza was the right one since it had my name on it - and then found out that they had given me the wrong pie. Was pretty disappointed with the pie I got.

This was one of the first gems I found when I moved out here and fittingly I found it with Yelp! A casual Italian eatery in North Bergen. The pizza is great and all their bread is baked on site. Their menu includes pizza, pasta dishes, and entrees. Being kinda a regular, I have tried many things on their menu. Here goes my list... Their calamari is fantastic. My new favorite is the grilled octopus appetizer. It is served with lemon infused olive oil that is just freakin amazing. My favorite pizzas are the margherita and pantesca. But I would venture to say that you can't go wrong with any of the pizzas. I have tried a few pasta dishes and a few entrees. I have yet to venture to the salads but there is always next time. As for alcoholic beverages, they do serve beer and wine. A tad expensive but people have to make money right? All in all, a delicious treat. Parking can be difficult and I have to admit I have gotten a ticket or two but it's worth it. Bring quarters and an appetite!

Try going during the week, the wait won't be as long. This is probably my favorite pizza in NJ. Outstanding thin crust pizza and excellent entrees keep me coming back. They are super busy so you know all the ingredients are fresh. They have alcohol but also let you bring your own with a corkage fee. This place really gives Gramaldi's, Frank Pepe's, & Lombardi's a run for their money. And the price is right too.

We were famished in New Jersey, and not knowing the area very well, we let Yelp guide us to this absolute gem of a local joint. After we parked, we caught the scent of garlic, tomato sauce and roasted meat emanating out of the vents and entered like two zombies in search of brains. La Sorrentina is everything a modern day neighborhood trattoria should be; good atmosphere, lots of locals, menu packed with classics, reasonable prices. As soon as we sat down, they came right over with some awesome bread right from the oven which was piping hot inside and crispy outside. They bake it right there on the premises. For our meals we went with the the fettuccine alfredo with roasted chicken and the fettuccine bolognese. Everything was served really fast. Both pastas were cooked perfectly. The alfredo sauce was flavorful and rich but not at all heavy and the chicken was seasoned and roasted quite well. In an odd way, it reminded me of just how bad mainstream Italian can be sometimes, especially when you see the practically boiled meat sitting in the middle of gloppy sauce over overcooked pasta. As for the bolognese, it was definitely one of the best I've ever had. Even better than some of the meals I had over in Sicily. Just like Mom used to make. The portions were huge too. If you're ever in North Bergen, you must stop by this place!

We went here based on Yelp reviews. MAN are we happy. The breading on the veal parm is my only issue. It tasted odd like it had oatmeal or something. But the sauces are brilliant and it has a real family vibe. Amazing place. Tried the pizza for the first time last night. It is outright FANTASTIC! The lasagna is amazing! If you go here and don't order the mussels in the red sauce...You are TRULY missing out. They are fantastic!

Tried La Sorrentina last night for the first time as our New Years Day dinner and it was fantastic. We ordered the pizza Basco and the Chicken with mushrooms in wine/lemon sauce with escarole. Both were great, the hot crusty bread was fantastic, the service was prompt and friendly. Something I would really like to point out was the ambience. Yes it is a family style pizzeria with great food and there are kids and large parties of ten people sitting alongside tables of 2. The noise level was not overwhelming which I found surprising. We could have a normal conversation without everyone elses conversations bouncing off the walls. We will return 100%.

AMAZING! Found this place on Yelp several months ago and have been back at least 10 times since then....and brought family & friends and everyone loves it! Somebody tell me if I am biased just because I'm a North Bergen resident but this is the best pizza in the State of NJ. I'm all ears if someone has tried a place that's better, please let me know. So on this occasion we had the Caprese Salad and a Pepperoni Pizza. The mozz must be freshly made in house but I can't comment on the Tomatoes because I don't eat them. The pizza is as good as it gets, not sure why it's oval but who cares. I'm assuming they can fit more in their oven with that shape, but someone please confirm why that shape.

Been coming here from the beginning I don't think I can ever recall a bad meal. The place is packed almost every day for lunch and every night especially weekends. The staff is attentive for a busy bustling restaurant. All the food is outstanding but no matter what you order you must try the pizza. Also, the mussels are the best I have ever had the sauce is heavenly you will use your home made bread to soak up every last drop. To get away from the "Italian Food" try one of their sandwiches the steak sandwich is outstanding but you most likely will be taking some of it home. There is no down side to this family run gem. It's your loss if you haven't tried it.

This is the DANKEST pizza place I been to in Jersey. It's like Lido's in Hackensack: think crust, lots of high-grade ingredients. Almost more like eating a salad. All the same I wasn't able to finish eating a single pie. Quite a substantial meal, and an excellent option for group get-togethers.

I travel alot for work so I really rely on reviews on yelp to help choose a place to eat. The reviews for this pizza joint did not lie. I really liked my experience here. I ordered a small pizza with ricotta pesto on one half and on the other half capers and olives. The pesto pizza half was really great, loved it. The olive and capers with red pepper was kinda spicy and you really have to LOVE capers and olives if you order this pizza because the black olive and capers are the dominate flavors of the pizza. I came for an early dinner and there was seating available but got really busy fast. The pizza is very reasonably priced and the small is huge. The only downside of the meal was that I also ordered cream brûlée as a dessert. Save your move with the desserts, not worth it. It wasn't homemade and definitely not worth the almost 6 bucks. I haven't found many good restaurants in the Hackensack, Ridgefield area so I will be a repeat customer here.

wow...nothing like old school italian food you can always tell the difference between a pizza joint and a family owned restaurant that has been around for awhile because of quality food frittura alla napoletana - great sampler, the starter sized rice balls, potato croquettes, homemade mozzarella and calzoncini were delicious....bf never tried any of these items before and loved them all we ordered "small" pizzas, expecting your typical individual sized pizzas well, next time we will order one pie with half/half toppings the "small" pizzas barely fit the large pizza box it came in the toppings were generous but the crust wasn't baked long enough in the center nonetheless, so delicious, the kind of delicious where you know you should stop eating but you just don't want to....i even held back from having any beer so i could have room to continue enjoying this food we will return to give them another chance on the pizza crust because everything else was so satisfying

Looking for a great pizza place, came across this one on yelp. First time I had it, took the margherita and grilled baby octopus to go and was a bit disappointed...but gave it the benefit of the doubt. Take home never compares to eating it fresh for this kind of pizza. So next time, I dined in and was thoroughly satisfied with the calamari and the puntesca. My friend tried one with ricotta and meat which I found a bit heavy. Personally, I'd stick to the lighter pizzas here. Quality ingredients and a winner though.

Would be 4-1/2 if I could. Had some pizza and appetizers and they were excellent. Pizza was cooked to perfection. Very reasonably priced. Took a half a star off because you are unable to make reservations and the food comes out very quickly and you sometimes feel rushed.

Wow. I just want to say how excited I am that this place is finally back from vacation. Their calamari and brick oven pizzas are out of this world. The hubby and I are huge fans of the pantesca (fresh mozzeralla, tomatoes, black olives and capers) and the funghi (fresh mozzerella, prosciutto, eggplant, protobello mushroom and artichokes). We try to walk the few blocks from our house to the restaurant, because we know we're going to stuff ourselves silly. Go here now. Eat. Be Happy.

I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant. The food is authentic, fresh and their sauces are delicious. They have, by far, the best thin crust, brick oven Margharita pizza. Finally, they make amazing Tiramisu. I absolutely love Tiramisu and becuase I love it, I am very critical. Not everyone can make good Tiramis but La Sorrentina's is absolutely delicious, creamy and well balanced.

You probably think the book on La Sorrentina has been written. ...not quite. You already know about all the consistently great food, including their pizza. And you probably know that from the waiters, to those manning the counter, to the busing guys, everyone you come into contact with here (and I'll assume the kitchen staff based on the results) is super nice and does a great job...everyone. 'nuff said. But, here's what you don't know regarding their pizza which I believe is the best pizza ANYWHERE nearby, possibly in all of Jersey, and I believe would show well against the big boys across the Hudson. You see, I've been coming here quite a bit over the last several months. They don't sell slices, so you know I am at least sharing a pie...possibly shoveling the whole thing down alone! Because friends said something, I jumped on the scale the other day. ...I have LOST OVER TWENTY POUNDS. You probably think I am kidding, but I'm not. I am serious and I couldn't care less whether you believe me. Shoot, I probably couldn't have lost 20 pounds eating just their napkins. All you gym rats, KEEP SWEATING! Jared, you keep your lousy damned "6" turkey sandwich", enjoying (in my opinion) some questionable meat surrounded by the soon-to-be-stale mystery bread and all the tasteless fillings that you enjoyed so much on the way to losing weight. I HOWEVER, will keep my La Sorrentina Magic Weight Loss Pie with its fresh sauce, fresh mozz and awesome toppings, coming piping hot out of their brick oven. The pie goes in...yet the pounds come off!!! To be specific, I can't attest to ALL of their pizzas working this way, but at least one half of them do for me: - Margherita - Quattro Formaggi - Bosco (sausage and green peppers) - Pepperoni - Funghi - Pizza Polpettina (meatball) I just thought you folks should know that, when it comes to shedding the pounds, you have options. Regarding my math, this place is 4 1/2 stars...the extra half star MUST be awarded for the dietetic aspect.

This was some of the most fabulous Italian food I've ever had...and I've had a lot. Worth going out of our way for. The bolognese was fabulous and the wine wasn't too over priced. Boyfriend had the meat tortellini with marinara and ricotta. Also fabulous. Chicken parm was huge. The bread was also good. We will definitely be back next time were back on this side of the country!!!

The food is a perfect 5 stars. The pizza was hands down the best we have ever had in NJ...we had the one with the eggplant, mushrooms, artichokes and prosciutto.....EXCELLENT. Cannot wait to go back. Only complaint: Service was a little suspect when we first walked in, took about 15-20 minutes before someone came over to take our order. They seem like they are working hard and they probably are but perhaps since we weren't regulars and we were at a little twosome table in the corner they forgot but I will give it a pass this first time around because the food was to die for.

I love Sorrentina. I only have pizza once every couple of months and Sorrentina is by far my favorite in the neighborhood. I love to order a small veggie pizza and a grilled octopus and have the octopus on the pizza. The grilled vegetables on the pizza are delicious. All of their food is consistently delicious and the service/atmosphere is very friendly.

Known for their pizza's, their pasta dishes also do no disappoint. Highly recommend this place for a nice pie and pasta. Also their skirt steak is pretty darn good too. FYI, this place is BYOB and also charges corkage fee and cc split charges. Wouldn't mind going back here for a nice meal! I'm a fan!

Perhaps the finest pizza I've ever had. I might have once had a better slice in Rome (it's been long enough that my memory fails me), and sometimes Lombardi's in Manhattan is just as good (or perhaps better), but it is consistently serves up the best pizza around and beats out other heavy-weight contenders like Grimaldi's in Brooklyn. Decor: It's pretty run-of-the-mill, but nice enough. Brick walls, wood tables and chairs, basic flooring, lots of windows so it gets sun during the day, etc. It can get crazy packed in the evenings, especially during the weekends. Sometimes even during the day! Service: Friendly enough in that North NJ sort of way. If you frequent the place often, they get to know you pretty well and put in extra effort. Has a family restaurant vibe to it, which is nice. Food: The Pizza: The real reason you're here. My favorite is the Quattro Formaggi, which is a "four cheese" pizza. It is divine and probably the best pizza I've ever had. Sometimes I throw on pepperoni and other toppings and they seem to be pretty forgiving of my eccentricities. The Sorrentina is another favorite, though I have to be in the mood for it; it is topped with arugula, prosciutto, and cherry tomatoes. There are many other varieties offered and they'll let you add extra toppings if you'd like. It is hard to go wrong in the pizza department. Another thing I love there--and this is going to sound weird--is the ribe-eye steak. Sure, it isn't the best rib-eye I've ever had. But it is tasty and relatively cheap and with the broccoli rabe and Tuscan fries, it hits the spot. It's my staple there when I am not in the mood for pizza. I haven't had too many of the other main courses, because it is hard to veer off of the path of pizza or steak. I will say that the appetizers are unfortunately somewhat forgettable. None of them were bad, and some were pretty good (like the mozzarella, tomatoes and olive oil), but none really stood out. The place has a reputation for having great calamari and while the calamari is certainly fresh and cooked properly (too many places overcook/over-fry calamari), it is missing certain herbs and spices in the batter for me to really classify it as "great" calamari. But it does the trick for those who may not care about those things. Drinks & Dessert: I found the drink choices--especially with regards to beer--kind of limiting. I don't recall what I've had for desserts, but clearly nothing to write home about. Five stars for the pizza--it's really that good. New Yorkers, eat your heart out!

Food 4 Service 4 Ambiance 3.5 Food is pretty damn good. We had a vodka penne and margherita pizza with sausage. The vodka sauce was to point and full of prosciutto bits...hearty portions with lots of protein, mother don't skimp out. Pastas are priced around $16. The pizza had amazing sauce and was typical nyc thin crust. A small pizza which easily feeds one is $10-12. Everyone seems to know each other and the service was fast even on a sat night. You might have to flag them for things but they are quick and friendly. Comfy and tasty food at a reasonable price....def going back.

SERIOUSLY GOOD FOOD. La Sorrentina is my FAVORITE Italian restaurant EVER. It is a family owned and run restaurant. I would have to say I'm a "regular" at Sorrentina. My fiancé and I go at least once a week and they never let us down. This place has great food, GREAT service, and genuinely nice people. The food is ALWAYS good, the selection has grown since they first started up. The pizza is brick oven, of course it's amazing! There is also a great wine list if you dare! It doesn't get any better than Sorrentina, true Italian food... can't find that at any Olive Garden thats for sure!

WOW! I never knew this restaurant was here. I remember there was a South American Pupusa restaurant at this location and I guess I assumed it was replaced with another Latin American restaurant. I saw the reviews here on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I ordered fried calamari and a meatball pizza. The calamari was awesome...it practically melted in my mouth and the sauce was great too. The pizza was awesome too. The pizza is more of an oval shape. It also has a thinner crust than most of the pizza found in NNJ. The fresh mozzarella cheese and sauce had such incredible flavor . It was one of the best tasting pizzas I have had. I definitely want to go back and try some of the entrees.

Sorrentina revisited after multiple visits. Everything is still great. This is still one of the two five stars I have given so far. I declare this establishment top 5 restaurants in NJ. Food = 6 stars Price = 5 stars Service = 4 stars Wait = 4 stars Pasta is amazing. Baby octopus is amazing. All the other brick oven pizza is amazing. This place is in the amazing business. This review is based solely on the plain brick oven pie. With that said... This is by far the best pizza in all of NJ. I would even put this at top five things to eat in NJ. The pizza is so good that I would place this in a different category from the rest. The fresh mozzarella and home made margarita sauce melts in your mouth. The only reason why I didn't just swallow it was because I wanted to chew on it with the crust so I can savor my first experience. And there is nothing like the first experience of something wonderful. When the waiter asked me if everything was OK, I had to stop myself from hugging him because I was that happy. I was in a bad mood all day and this pizza made me forget all about it. Yes, it was just that good. This is the only five star I gave so far and it is solely based on quality of food and its cost. I went back to all my other favorable reviews and dropped it down a notch just because of this place.

There's not much I can say about La Sorrentina that hasn't already been said here. Excellent pizza, nice, warm ambience, freshly baked bread, quality ingredients including killer shellfish/ seafood - my every visit is guaranteed to include some manner of mussel, clam, calamari or octopus! And this is one place where portion size is NOT an issue -- great value for your dining dollar, for sure. I have yet to not thoroughly enjoy anything I've ordered at the Trattoria... now, if only they'd deliver and have slightly later hours! (Hence the loss of one star.)

I've been eating at La Sorrentina since they opened. It is without a doubt, the best pizza in New Jersey. The calamari is perfectly fried. It is not rubbery. I crave this stuff! Their red sauce is so good! I've had some of their pasta dishes and have never been disappointed. The pizza is why to eat there! Fresh mozzarella, their tasty sauce, fresh produce like eggplant, artichoke, mushrooms. Do yourself a favor and check this place out if you haven't yet!

I love La Sorrentina!!! I 've been coming here for years... I've had everything from their fried calamari, to their Spinach & Fresh Mozz Salad, to their Brick oven Pizza & their AWESOME Panini's. Their BREAD is amongst the BEST ITALIAN bread in all of Hudson County; Hands down....!! The service, on very busy days especially, can be a little slow but the staff is genuinely friendly and it has the FEEL of a FAMILY RUN operation (which is always a PLUS for me!) GOOD GOING SORRENTINA!!

We decided to go here due to a co worker of mine asking me if i have ever been. I looked into it and it looked like an awesome place. We had a 30 mins wait due to the fact they do not take reservations on Fri-Sun. And it was 30 mins on the dot. We had the fried app with rice balls, mozzerella, and some potato thing. All was pretty good. Then got a large Margerita pie and Grilled Chicken ALfredo, 4 glasses of white wine. I must say the overall staff was great, and some great EYE candy for sure. =0)

This restaurant deserves the almost unobtainable rating level for so many reviews. They made me the best lasagna that I have ever had. I cannot believe that I am saying this. That is a compliment of unimaginable proportions as I take my lasagna (and babyback ribs, meatloaf and pizza) very seriously. I have very strict standards and am ruthless in my criticisms in this category. Well done...well done.

This place has excellent pizza. Large feeds 3 fatsos small feeds 2 regular people who are hungry. The pizza is good here and the steak dishes. The salads are also great and the sandwiches even my dads a fan and he only likes Spanish foods. I wasn't a big fan of the pasta dishes because every time I get the pasta its too hard for me, not al dente. Overall this place is great and the service is great too.

Some of the best Italian food in the area! I've been coming here with my boyfriend since we moved to North Bergen two years ago and it gets better and better everytime. Great date spot but also a great spot to have a girls dinner because there are some smoking hot male waiters in here! Holy eye candy! Seriously though, they give you piping hot homemade bread when you sit down. Try an insalata mista and a brick oven pizza. My personal favorite is the Quattro Stagione, with eggplant, mushrooms, prosciutto and eggplant, to die for! Dinners are also delicious but I always end up getting that delicious brick oven pizza! Also, try their fresh mozz; it's creamy, soft and super fresh. You will love it even if mozz isn't your thing. Also, they serve beer and wine.

Good for lunch... Great for dinner.... After you order they serve fresh ciabatta bread (really hot be careful) I had their brick oven pizza *whhaatt?!* but if you like a good chicken parm on bread then dont pass up on the opportunity to get one here, you are in for a surprise.. The parking around the area sucks (of course its North Bergen) plus most likely you are going to wait on a nice Friday or Saturday evening, but the food... MARONE... Delisioso

My friends insisted we had to go to this place because it had the BEST pizza and appetizers. That's pretty much all they needed to say and I was sold on wanting to go. It's small, but so are the side streets around this place. North Bergen is kind of on a slant. I would go to this place if it only had a counter, it was SO good. The appetizers were fresh mozzarella, and the pizza we had was big and delicious. We also had their meatballs (really, really good) and their clams (fresh and tasty). This seems like a place allot of the locals cherish because everyone seemed very friendly with each other. I reccomend that if you're in this area, grab some pizza and some clams and Mangia!

  • Joel T.

The pizza was very delicious and you could tell that they use fresh ingredients. The crust was perfect and nothing fell off of the pizza while separating the slices, which has been an issue in other places. Prices are reasonable and the setting was comfortable for our family of five.

Hands down the best brick oven pizza I've ever had!!! The quatro stagioni is my favorite! They are always more than happy to modify each pizza so that everyone at your table is happy. Outside of the pizza the food is surprisingly good. The octopus is fantastic. Trust me just order it. It's no longer the best kept secret. If you go on the weekends there might be a wait. The waiters are usually running around and screaming at each other, but its a controlled and loving chaos. Love the place! They also have a good beer list. I'd categorize their wine list as average. BUT ITS ALL ABOUT THE PIZZA !!!

  • Annabelle C.

My first visit here was long over due. Zagat rated in North Bergen? I just had to try it out! The bread won me over. STRAIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN. And they give you Olive Oil, Parmesan Cheese, & a Peppercorn Grinder to top it with. YUM. The Mussels were great. The sauce was a light white wine Marinara that was good enough to drink to the last drop. The Pizza is great, the best around here, I think. Thin crust with perfect toppings. Stick to just that, though, people. The pastas aren't anything crazy. When in Le Sorrentina, definitely just order the Appetizers and Pizza.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I first dined in at the restaurant on a Friday night in December. We had to wait about 10 minutes and then we were seated near the open kitchen. It was crowded and there were always a few people waiting at the door for a table to open up. The service was attentive, despite how busy they were. The food was AMAZING! My boyfriend and I split the Caesar salad and Bosco pizza. I love brick oven pizza and their pizza is so good. We have ordered take out from her a number of times...their ingredients are pricey but top notch, fresh mozzarella is outstanding! Hmmmm!

Is North Bergen a shlep from Hoboken? Maybe a small one considering you could just grab a slice at one of the many Washington Street spots. But this place is right on the main drag in North Bergen and we saw the #22 bus fly by a few times while sitting there, so stop being lazy, grab your bus fare and get over there. The bus will also save you from having to find a parking spot on a busy night, though if you're used to what it's like trying to find a spot in Hoboken, it should be a cinch for you here. I should also say that aside from Grimaldi's, this pizza beats any other slice I've had in Hoboken. The place was packed on a busy Saturday night, but the flow was constant- quick service and people were coming in hungry and leaving promptly with a belly full of great food. The waiters overall were pretty gruff with thick accents, but were nice enough and efficient, despite that we were in the corner table barely visible from most of the restaurant. We ordered a mixed appetizer plate with a nice variety of fried morsels- rice balls, mini calzones, potato somethingerothers and mozzarella sticks. Ordering a bunch of fried cheese before digging into a giant cheesy pizza may not have been the kindest thing to do to our arteries, but it was good to our tastebuds. The calzones tasted like a mini version of my mom's homemade ones and I couldn't stop picking on the rice ball even after I was stuffed full of pizza. The pizza is oddly oval-shaped, something which we're almost accustomed to now after a trip to Frank-Pepe's in New Haven. They cut the slices into squares instead of triangles. This comforted my boyfriend who hails from Chicago, home of *mumbles: icky deep dish pizza*, but more importantly the square slice. The pizza was a touch greasy, and with cloth napkins it's a bit hard to blot, but it was quite delicious. A good amount of char on the crust, fresh tasting pizza sauce (not over seasoned like a lot of places tend to make it) and good cheese. The basil leaves were a nice touch, though my bf complained of encountering a few basil stems. Pizza makers make mistakes too. Fuhgeddaboutit! (crap... good pizza brings out my jersey)

Absolutely beyond amazing. Honestly couldn't complain about anything. Our group of 6 got Saltinbocca alla Romana, the rib eye, a Margarita pizza, skirt steak entre, and another chicken dish. Our appetizer was fried calamari and the octopus. All of them where amazing. The octopus had a little bite to it but that helped make the dish delicious. Everything came out very fast and exactly how we ordered. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone that loves real Italian food!

I had been craving spaghetti for a while so i ventured out to try some with my husband at this restaurant. OMG so amazing! My new favorite Italian place hands down! Growing up I had a spanish godmother that made amazing spaghetti marinara and I was craving this, Trattoria La Sorrentina did not let me down! The marinara is fresh lil sweet but amazing just the way it is, then fresh mozarella is so excellent! I loved the chicken, avacado, tomato marinara appetiser salad its soo good! I will be going back! Good portions as well!

I absolutely enjoyed this place and the food. This place is like your friendly neighborhood trattoria with delicious gourmet pizza. My friends and I indulged in a pie that had arugula and prosciutto which was great with a wonderful crust (I don't often enjoy crust on a pizza but I LOVED it here). We also ate some fried calamari which had a delicious, marinara sauce to accompany it. All-in-all I really liked this place. The food was great, the portion sizes were plentiful, the service was fast and friendly, and the whole restaurant made you feel at home. You could tell by how quickly this place crowded up that lots of others agree with how good this place is. Definitely try this place if you can! (Oh but just as a warning, parking here is pretty difficult as it's street parking.)

Found this spot thanks to some great local reviews. Pizza and rice balls was enough for the two of us on this night. Nice selection of craft beers available. We were shocked at the huge size of the entrees that were coming out to tables near by. Cant wait to try the pasta and seafood dishes next time.

Best pizza in the area...by far! Closest thing to authentic Italian pizza you can get in the USA. Try the pizza margharita and pizza bianco with a Birra Moretti. The cheese and sauce are perfect and the crust is thin and crispy. Place is busy everytime I go, but it's so worth it.

There is just no better place for pizza than this place. Hot, fresh and absolutely amazing. However, for pasta it is just OK. The prices are high for their entrees so we normally don't order. Their caesar salad is fresh and always hits the spot. Sometimes service can be a little slow but it is always worth the wait.

This place might be classified as a hidden gem but its not really that hidden anymore, at least not for the locals. Sorrentina is really a great restaurant. So far I have only had their pizzas, which were excellent, but some of the other Italian dishes on the menu look pretty tasty too. However I have not as yet tried them. For an appetizer I would definitely recommend the fried calamari. If you want Pizza after that then I would suggest the "Quatri-Formaggi" (four cheese) Pizza as well the Pesto, Riccotta and Tomato pizza whose exact name I cant remember. The deserts were good too and I would definitely recommend those as well. Altogether we were a party of four and we ordered the following: 1 Calamari, 1 large Quatri-Formaggi Pizza 1 regular pesto, ricotta and tomato pizza. 2 deserts 2 soft drinks. Our total including tax and 20% tip was $82.00 which I think was excellent value for money. We even had about four slices of pizza left over to take home. I would definitely go back there again.

I've been here a few times and each time is a pleasure. It's pizza that you really dream about. I moved away from NJ so I'm not here as often as I'd like but whenever I visit, I beg for this pizza. It's THAT good. Plus, the white bean and grilled shrimp appetizer makes me very happy. Linguine with white clam sauce is highly recommended. The pizza are good in general but to be rather helpful, that prosciutto one should be tried. Extra arugula makes it spicy and gives an extra bite to it. Love it. I normally order the margarita and have always enjoyed it. I hear there is a busstop nearby so definitely Hobokenites should visit. Calamari is crisp and nice. Good wine selection. I've also had the veal multiple times and it's always delicious. I skip the potatos that come with it but the veal is always perfecto. Never had room for dessert and that's a good thing sometimes:)) Even if you have to park far away...it's worth the walk. And a good after dinner stroll is never a bad thing for digestion. Great for small groups, dates and large groups. I think I've seen families and it doesn't get too crazy noisy so you can have a decent conversation without shouting. You will be very happy you've found this place and a great pizza will be had at this delicious Italian gem.

On Saturday evening, we met with a bunch of friends at La Sorrentina in North Bergen, NJ. Original plan was having a picnic that day. But since one of our friends was expecting a baby and is due in 1-2 weeks and all other people had some other things on their schedule, we decided to have pizza in the evening. The signature ingredient is prosciutto. All the pizzas were very delicious and we paid only a hundred bucks (including tip) for 9 people dining out, believe it or not. The waiter (who turned out to be a Turkish speaking Armenian) brought us an extra pizza when we opted out the prosciutto in two pizzas. I liked the eggplant pizza. Will definitely go back!

Sorrentina's brick-oven baked paninis are the size of two footballs! Mama mia talk about BIG! I'd recommend the steak panini, for its packed with caramelized onions and mozzarella. Furthermore, the gnocchi was also great; I loved the sauce! My gripe and what really left me unsatisfied: the service. Yes, I understand that a Saturday night is mad busy, but everything - our waiter taking our order, having our food brought to our table - took way too long. When the waiter took my glass to get me water and NEVER came back - yo, it'd been 15 minutes - I had to get up to look for him. I was irritated and ready to go b/c he obviously had forgotten about us.

Brick oven pizza, grilled octopus and paninis--- oh my! This authentic Italian place is slightly upscale but casual enough to be comfortable. Arrive early and often, as they don't take reservations and there is usually a line.

One of our favorite places! Their pizza is the best anywhere--our Italian friends say it's like going to Rome. We also love the mussels in red sauce and the fried calamari and the house salad and pretty much everything else. Waiters are breezy but cheerful and pleasant. Great for lunch, too!

It is obvious that Trattoria La Sorrentina has the best pizza in the area. We travel 20 minutes to go there just to pick up pizza because no one in Secaucus can even light a candle to them. We have eaten there on many occasions and have always left completely satisfied. They are also a restaurant with some really tasty appetizers and entrees. We enjoy their butter beans with grilled shrimp in a light olive oil/lemon dressing. We love the frittura alla Napoletana. The gnocchi is light and homemade. The servers are extremely friendly and always gracious. This is the place!

Being that I am a Brooklyn bred Italian, I feel that no one knows pizza and Italian food better than one of us. That being said, La Sorrentina is a gem. The pizza was amazing, ranking as high high as some of the best Brooklyn pizza places I've been to, but what really made this restaurant shine in my opinion was their tomato sauce. Absolutely amazing. My Grandma would be ok with me eating here and not turn over in her grave. It's so good they sell it to go! We ordered the homemade gnocchi which was to die for. Cooked to perfection with just the right amount of sauce. My only problem with the dining experience was when they delivered us our penne with sausage and mushrooms. Now being an Italian, I love my pasta al dente but this one bordered on still hard out of the box. We ate family style and everyone agreed that it was the ONLY flaw we could find with the meal. 2 more minutes in the water and this place might have earned a fifth star. Also, be warned, if you plan to go on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night, the line is out the door and around the block. No reservations accepted at all. Go early, it's worth the trip.

I am really learning to love the fact that New Jersey has random pizza deliciousness scattered all over. We found some pictures of the pizza at Trattoria La Sorrentina (TLS from here on out) and it was on. Get out your driving gloves and make your way to North Bergen. You won't be sorry. TLS's pizza is prepared in a 600+ degree gas fired oven. They come out hot and crispy. I love cracker like crust and this was some of the best I've had. The sauce was very simple and not over powering and the cheese seemed like it was of a good quality. All together, they made for a delicious pizza. I can't wait to go back and try their Quattro Formaggi pie. It looks great!

Loved it!! My husband and I always go to the same restaurants, but last Saturday we decided to try somewhere new, and we were so happy we did! We ordered a small margherita pizza to start (amazing), shared steamed mussels (double amazing) and then shared gnocchi with pomedoro sauce. We decided that this is the best restaurant in the area, and we plan on bringing our parents there next!!

I was taken here by someone who swore the food was great, but I had the worst Italian meal ever. It's a simple, mom and pop style place and was very busy. Our meal started with an octopus appetizer - it was a bit charred (looked like the chef fell asleep while preparing it) was bland. Then pizza, which was soggy right from the oven, was also without any flavor. The most bland food I've had in ages. Sorry to say I would not go back.

So I'm going to have to agree with everyone that the pizza is great, especially the Four Cheese, top notch. What I do have a problem with however is the overabundance of Italian World Cup winning paraphernalia that is on the walls and even in the window. I would not go into the place because of that, and it wasn't until I was drug in with a friend, and had little choice in the matter. Once the staff is willing to admit to French Football supremacy, and takes down most of the paraphernalia, I'll go in on my own, and boost the review up to 4 or 5, depending on what's on the walls.

SKIP THIS PLACE, GO TO TAPAS De Espana right next door. ONE WORD... Disappointing. After reading all these incredible reviews, I expected this place to be sooooooo much better. The pepperoni pizza was decent, nothing that special. I've had better, I've had worse. The four cheese was crappy. Tasted like rubber. I still have leftovers which I just bit into and its bad. So, this place isn't that great. Sorry. The servers were nice. The place was jam packed with people. But this just wasn't that special. I've had so much better. Sciortinos Harbor Lights in South Amboy has way better pizza. And if you want better than that go to Numero 28 in the East Village. That's REAL pizza. This Sorrentina place is at the most 2.5 stars out of 5. Soooo Whatever. Don't believe the hype. Don't come here if you live out of the way. Waste of time. Listen to me.

Great brick oven pizza. Excellent competition for Brooklyn's Pizza (in Edgewater or Hackensack). The sauce was delicious and the cheese was of good quality. A local treasure. I left after my first time, looking forward to my return. I can't wait. ;-)

This is probably my favorite pizza place anywhere. I get the large margherita. Its kinda square and kinda round. Sometimes I throw a little prosciutto on it and/or a couple mushrooms. Sometimes I go with the Quattro Stagione. Everything is good though. Zuppa Di Pesce. Skirt Steak with homemade fries. It's all good. You could BYOB, but there's a $12 corkage fee. They also serve alcohol too. It could get kind of tight on Friday or Saturday night. It's best to go with a party of 4 or less. 6 tops.

Thanks to Yelp, we found this place while at a convention at Javits. Close to our hotel in Jersey, and very easy to find. The pizza? Awesome! Unique flavors and an excellent selection! The pasta dish? Soooo good! We came here 2 nights out of the 3 that we were here in town! The place? Felt like we were in Italy! I could be wrong, but I think we were the only ones there that did not speak Italian! Great environment. Still had a good crowd near closing time. Rumor has it that they may be opening a place in Santa Monica, CA!!

This place has become a mainstay in mid town North Bergen. Known for their thin crust and farm fresh mozzarella pizza its a rarity in this part of town. The thing is they are not only known for their pizza but their sandwiches as well. In my sitting here I had one of the cheesiest, meatiest meat ball subs. The sauce to meat ratio was perfect. The reason this place only gets four stars from me is the short handed staff that always seems to be in charge of three or four tables at a time. Either than that the food was something not a lot of people find around this area.

Visiting mom was craving "delicious pasta" so we turned to Yelp for guidance. I am so glad we did! We ended up doing take-out & seeing how packed the place was (7pm on a Friday), this was the right choice. Now to the food... We ordered the: Oreichetti with Sausage & Broccoli Rabe, Penne Bascaiola, Penne Belvedere, Baked Salmon with Salad & garlic bread. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious! Many times we've ordered pasta from other local spots and had to doctor it up with a little fresh ground pepper, salt, or fresh grated parm - not so with our dishes from Trattoria. Additionally, everything was piping hot, even when we got it home. We will definitely start frequenting Trattoria La Sorrentina, as it is our new pasta "go to" spot.

We actually ate here several times before we got our food catered for our wedding. The food was great, our guests enjoyed the food. Even though our venue was 20 mins away, they were kind enough to deliver the food. I would definitely recommend the place for catering and for sit down dinners. Thank you for keeping our appetites in check.

I love pizza, I could eat pizza day and night, and let me tell you, this is one of the best pizzas I've ever ate. La Sorrentina es pretty damn good, and The Pepperoni is ajsgajhdahhssh, delicious. Whenever you ask for the Pepperoni pizza, ask for some Arugula

delicious pizza, courteous wait staff, and reasonable prices...no need to trek into the city for quality pizzas anymore! (i still do on occasion, but i have the option to run here for quality pizzas as well! WIN!) i highly recommend the Quattro Stagioni pizza...you won't be disappointed!

I've been coming here for years and it has the best pizza on the planet (called Sorrentina pizza is the name). I also like the chicken parm sandwich, it's delicious and it's big, enough for two people. Check it out and your taste buds will thank you.

We had appetizers of mussels and an antipasto with sliced meat and cheese. When they brought a container of hot bread, with butter and olive oil to start, we put the sliced meat and cheese from the antipasto inside and made great sandwiches! For entrees we ordered two kinds of pizza, mixed seafood bowl with spicy tomato sauce, fish of the day, and tortellini and another pasta dish. All were delicious. The food is a bit on the heavy side however. A salad might have been a good choice to balance. Would definitely go again.

I really thoroughly enjoyed my time when they first opened but yelp wasn't around and I moved to central jersey- luckily my mother lives in Weehawken. But I wanted pizza outside Hoboken (because it gets a little crazy with parking). Ambiance: A-OK .. Nice and clean... And Different from other restaurants on bergenline in the 40th-60th streets... More space and italian brick feel Food: white bean and spicy shrimp was a great appetizer! The shrimp was cooked and marinated perfectly. A tad bit of salt, spice or lemon (or all 3) on the white beans would have been good. Arugula salad was yummy! Love the peppery greens and the dressing was not overbearing. The pizza was good- forgot the name but it was eggplant, mushrooms, artichoke and I put olives instead of prosciutto ... I should have left the olives out since all those flavors are strong! Bread was delicious!!! Warm and fresh & filling so careful... Because you want to leave room for the awesome food. We also ordered eggplant bake which was not drenched with oil and the dish took pride in its tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella We were 5 people... Three appetizers and small pizza filled us up! (we even packed half the pie to go) but keep in mind we were four girls and one guy. Service: fast, not rude just fast north jersey style with a casual flair and no pretentiousness Definitely visit this place! * Update: I brought the leftover pizza into work, zapped it in the microwave for 1 minute, and it was delicious!! The flavors were really pronounced- LOVE this place! The insalatas overshadowed the pizza somewhat last night, but this changed my review from 4 to 5!

I am going to keep this short and sweet as mostly everything has been covered. La Sorrentina is about as good as it gets on this side of the bridge for Italian. My immediate families have been coming here for many years and I stand by the consistency at which they deliver. The food is very authentic and delicious. The service and speed at which they operate is top notch from all the experience. While the room could get a bit tight at times, the ambiance and atmosphere is always warm and nice. The prices are also more then reasonable. 5 stars no questions asked. Oh, and the gelato place (Canoli gelato, yes please!) next door is the perfect compliment. Whose idea was it to put that there? Brilliant!

Food is decent but the service is somewhat lacking. They seem to be friendly to some of the regulars there, but they treated me like a second class citizen. I was trying to be very polite and thanked my waiter (apparently the owner's son) for everything, but for some reason, he ignored me the whole time. Even when the check came out, no "thank you" or anything. He just came over and dropped the check on my table without saying a word and just walked away. It wasn't even that busy, so I don't know what his problem was. Perhaps it's because I asked for Tabasco sauce, since I like my seafood pasta spicy, but that's no excuse at all! I'm the paying customer, and I'll eat the way I prefer! Very disappointed and it certainly left a sour taste in my mouth. Plenty of other options available in the area, and I'll skip this place next time.

This place hits the spot every time. I come here often for lunch with my coworkers. Although it is always busy during lunch hours, there is never a wait. All the staff is extremely friendly in this casual environment. Upon entering, you can pick your table... the staff is super attentive to you but not in that nagging kind of way. I do think that a lot of the pasta dishes seem to be a little heavy for a lunch menu, especially since they do serve large portions. We used to just order the margherita pie which is the best pizza in the area! However, I am so sooo glad I decided to be adventurous one day and order the Insalata Vicana, which includes a heaping portion of grilled chicken, mozzarella, avocado, tomato and onion. The best perk about this place is that you can find close parking (big shocker for N. Bergen) and you can be done with lunch in under an hour. Its perfect for lunch breaks.

The best pizza is not found in New York, in my opinion, but in NJ! Get to this treasure long before you plan on eating, because parking is scarce. If you do have to wait, try not to stare through to window to peak at the magic that's going on inside, people are trying to eat. I was introduced to this place by a close Italian friend who grew up in the area. I have been to La Sorrentina twice now and have been wow'ed each time. The waiters aren't the most attentive, but mostly because they always have a full house of hungry diners. The restaurant itself is traditional and mellow. Their wine list is sufficient but their beer selection is probably less than ample. I'm here for the food anyway. I've had their calamari (Frittura di Calamari), the fried appetizer sampler (Frittura alla Napoletana), the Bosco pizza, and the Sorrentina pizza. Everything is always fresh and delicious. Calamari is fried just right, not chewy. The breading on the sampler isn't overwhelming. The Bosco pizza has quality Italian sausage that's full of flavor. Let's get to the Sorrentina. This is the main reason why I'm writing this as my 100th review. Pizza is my favorite food and the Sorrentina is my favorite pizza, end of story. Everything that goes on in this pizza makes it the best of the best. The dough is thin crust, baked well done, and every bite has a crunch. There is just the right amount of cheese where you still have to tug on the pizza for the mozzarella to stretch and finally break. The arugula and tomatoes are fresh, you can tell from the Christmas colors. The prosciutto is not overly salty or overpowering. And finally, a drizzle of olive oil to combine all of the flavors together. Now that's a pizza. Great, now I'm thoroughly hungry and more than 100 miles away from Italian heaven.

One of the best Italian place in North NJ in terms of food! Everything is great here! Casual setting, decent service, parking can be little difficult at night...getting tables for dinner time can be tough (only negative about this place other than no delivery food)

To be fair, my friend and I tried this place *right* after hurricane Sandy, when many places that were open were scrambling to accommodate crowds of locals with cabin fever and an appetite. So we expected crowds and slow service, which is what we got. But the pizza was pretty damn good for what it is, and I'm born and raised in Brooklyn -- I've lived in Hudson County, NJ just over 12 years. It's surprising to me that this area of NJ can't produce stellar pizza, being so close to NYC, but it's possible to get very good pizza here, at places like this. My friend and I shared a small pie with mushrooms and onions, and it was very tasty. We also shared the mixed salad, which wasn't very good, and we attributed it to the lack of fresh ingredients making it to restaurants in the area after the storm. The greens were wilted and there was too much dressing. The bread brought to the table was *inedible* -- rock hard -- and again, we're guessing they obviously hadn't received a bread delivery in a few days. I'd be willing to give them another shot, as the pizza was very good.

I kid you not, one of the absolute best italian places I have ever been to. When I took a bite of my pasta I said out loud, "what the #&@!". I was cursing the whole night. We started with mussles in white sauce which was unbelievably delicious and was a huge portion. I believe it was only 12 dollars?! Trust me for the size of this dish, it was well worth over 12. Tip: get this and when the bread comes out, don't eat it with butter, save it so you can soak the juices from this dish. TRUST ME, worth it. I had the spaghetti with cherry tomato and basil, and my mom and sister had the penne vodka, and bolognese. All the pastas were cooked perfectly al dente. But let me talk about this penne vodka people, it was out of this world. I have never tasted penne vodka like this, it has a completely different flavor. Or you know what, it's probably the right way to make it and everyone else is doing it wrong. I could go on and on about this. Huge portions btw, I could get the mussles and one pasta and split it with someone easily. You have to try this place sometime. Your future self will thank you.

Had dinner here with the hubby. It was delicious. We split a margarita pizza and a tres calore (?). There was a little too much ricotta cheese for my taste but hubby enjoyed it. I liked the margarita half. There were only two waiters and for a regular Tuesday night that may be ok but this night was exceptionally busy so it look a while for us to be helped. Regardless though, the pizza was fresh, hot and delicious! I'm sure we'll be back.

Truly in love with this place. Their tiramisu and cannolis are amazing. I usually get the fettuccini alfredo and it's the best I've ever had. Also love the penne vodka. And...the bread and pizza are amazing. This place never disappoints.

This place is legendary. It's on The Ave and is always packed. The pizza here is the kind you get in Italy. I went with my girl and another couple on Friday night. The meal started with our waiter bringing our freshly baked, piping hot, delicious bread. We then ordered some vino off their extensive wine list (our server's recommendation was solid). This place also has a wonderful craft beer menu (bottles only). We split the Sorrentina pizza as an appetizer. Classic Italian style pizza covered in fresh prosciutto, mozzarella, Romano, arugula, and cherry tomatoes. Couldn't be better. For the entrees, my girl and I split the veal saltinbocca with rosemary potatoes and the orecchiete with broccoli rabe and sausage. Both of these dishes were as good as I've ever had. I couldn't recommend them any more highly. For dessert, we all split the homemade Tiramisu. I'm a Tiramisu aficionado, and this may be the best I've ever tasted. It was so sweet and yummy, and came in a heaping portion. If you live or work anywhere in Hudson County, you must find time to go to La Sorrentina.

Best of the best. Best pizza in NJ. Best grilled octopus in NJ (and the only place I've been to that serves it like they do). The sorrentina pie has been copied at other places I've been to, but it's never as good. The restaurant is always packed but the service is very good. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. Great family restaurant. They have a nice beer list and Peroni on tap (also one of the few places around that has Manabrea... which is so awesome). I've never had a dish here that I didnt like. Fresh mozz, outstanding. Lasagne, outstanding. Even the basket of hot homemade bread is awesome. My biggest problem is that I love the things I get so much, that I haven't sampled enough of their menu.

5 stars... Here's why you should listen to this review. I've been eating Italian food all my life... It helps when you're Italian. I'm not trying to sound cocky in any way, but once you've truly had a homemade Italian dish, there is nothing in this world that could compare... Especially when it's your mother that made it. With that being said, a pizzeria to me... Is a pizzeria. When you find that one little spot that reminds you of homemade cooking, you tend to go back. That's when I found this place. Let me tell you something, people aren't dumb. If there's a line out the door... It's there for a reason. People will wait for something that's good. So when you see a long line at a place like this, they must be doing something right. After coming here a few times, I've realized. This is one of my favorite places to eat. My wife and I love everything about this place. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. The food here is out of this world! I'm not someone that's just going to order a pizza, like it... Then roll out the red carpet. To me, a true test to any restaurant is their seafood. I love mussels. I can't just eat mussels anywhere, because people think they know how to cook them and you end up tasting the sea and sand they were taken from. Come here and have their mussels. Unbelievable. While you're at it... Lobster ravioli too. I'm personally telling you to come here and give them a chance. You'll fall in love.

Excellent pizza! I was craving some good cheese one day and saw some reviews for this place so decided to visit. It's right at the corner of the park in North Bergen. I've passed by this place for years but never stopped by! Glad I did! Service: One word for our waiter. efficient! He didn't say much and spoke kind of quickly but I couldn't complain. This place is a well oiled machine! If you don't care about the waiters chatting it up with you...and all you care about is getting your food, the service is great. Atmosphere: darker colors, open space, you can see the brick oven in the back. Not too fancy but not too casual. Finally... FOOD: We got the chicken, mozz, avocado, onion appetizer. We were debating a few choices and our waiter immediately directed us to this. It was good! We got the margarita pizza. Small is good for 2 people. (6 slices) This place puts a lot more cheese than other places for their margarita... but it's their fresh made mozz. so it's delicious! And I was craving cheese... it hit the spot My suggestion. Wait about 2 minutes before eating the pizza. When I first took a bite, the cheese was stretchy and everything was HOT but it tasted a little bland. My second slice! WOW! the flavors melted, the cheese was a bit more solidified but it was awesome. I think the pizza tasted better the cooler it got... at the end of my meal, i was taking small sips of my wine and taking little bites to make the slice last. haha... overall great find! slightly pricey for pizza but againt couldn't complain. Want to come back for their pasta and mussels. Saw people eating them and it looked good. Oh... the BYOB thing. They have a full list of wine and beer. However, if you have a bottle of some really good stuff then you can bring it for a cork fee. But their selection was decent so I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon.

Ordered the tripe as an appetizer and the pizza margherita. The tripe was super tender and the pizza super thin crust. It satisfied the craving. The waiter looked like a typical Jersey Shore guy - BONUS. I'll come back just for that eye candy.

From the outside, this may look like a pizzeria, but do not be deceived! They have fantastic food, including an amazing grilled octopus salad which is offered as an appetizer. First off, it's very fresh and tender and the portion is huge! More than enough to share with three people at a minimum. It is not BYO, but no big deal, prices are still really affordable.

Arrived around 6:30 on Saturday and was seated right away for a party of 5. Nice casual atmosphere with great food at reasonable prices. We had delicious thin crust pizza and several really fresh seafood plates. Their pasta portions are huge -- enough for 2 to share for sure. The server was exceptionally helpful and attentive. They actually serve the pizza slices for you instead of just leaving it on the table for you to fend for yourselves. Great place, great experience -- no wonder the yelp reviews are so high.

So now I am finally writing this review. Came here on a Friday with my wife and another awesome Yelp couple. At first I was alittle hesitant because we called ahead and were told there were tables open. Got there ten mins. later and it was packed. Not just packed but a line out the door waiting. So now I'm thinking what the hell are we gonna do now. Well with some fancy footwork by YoSteph and we were in. And at a very good table. Gotta say the service was great. Our waiter was super helpful with a choice of wines and with what was good on the menu. The appetizer was a pie we split which was awesome. Great crust, good sauce, and the cheese was fresh too. My entree was pretty good. I got the tortellini with mushrooms which was pretty nice but like every time you go to a restaurant with friends, whatever they order is better than what you get. My wife's angel hair pasta meal was fantastic, and the broccoli rob and sausage Steph and John were sharing was awesome. Once we finished dinner we were stuffed. Everyone looking at each other in a sweet calm that comes before the inevitable food comma when the waiter places the desert menu in front of us. Well of course we have to get the tiramisu and some chocolate covered ice cream balls. Gotta say the tiramisu was top three in my experience and we all were glad to have ordered it. Then the dreaded bill came and I gotta say. A hundred thirty bucks before tip for four ravenous peeps is killer. I can't say enough about this place. Food, decor, service, and price are all tops. My only warning is that it gets very busy weekend nights but I gotta say I would've waited for an hour for this food. Its a must go Yelpers. Enjoy.

Oh how I love this place... The staff treats you like family, the food is amazing every single time, and you always leave with tasty leftovers for next day.. We've tried pretty much everything on the menu, and everything is delicious. Grilled octopus is a must, and anything with Alfredo sauce is amazing! The fresh bread will burn your fingers - that's how fresh it is!! Yum. The pizza is also delicious and so huge - I love it!

The best pizza spot in the area. You can't go wrong with their signature dish, Sorrentina pizza.

I love it! Best 4 seasons ever!!! I always go here for Italian food! I'm very picky when it comes to pasta! But they do it perfect!!! I have been to many Italian places. Even in New York! But yet, this place is my favorite! A must-go!

As many have said, this is as good as it gets. Authentic Italian food. Fresh made ingredients. Even if you order their regular pizza, you will be floored. Real Italian pizza, thin crust with olive oil and basil. Not your pizzeria style pizza. My only complaint is that the place is way too small. It's about time the expanded. When they are really busy the wait time for a table is pretty ridiculous. But you can see them all running around like crazy and sweating trying their best so I don't complain. This is the spot I bring my out of town guests to get a taste of real food. Not Olive Garden garbage. You can only do better at twice the price in NoHo. For NJ this is the best.

Their margarita brick oven pizza is referred to as 'crack pizza' between my circle of friends because it is so tasty and addictive. Try their penne vodka dish also. I just wish they delivered.

I've been in Northern Jersey for a few years now and have YET to find as good a pizza pie as they do it here. Pricey but the ingredients are top notch and plentiful. Also, try the antipasto platter. You will NOT be disappointed.

The food is great, the pizza is amazing, but be prepared to wait and wait for everything. Also, forget about drink refill and you may as well ask for your check when they bring you your food or you will be there all night. They rarely have more than one waiter. It is usually just a waiter and a few bus boys. My boyfriend and I decided, after tonight's experience of them forgetting our bread, not bringing refills for our drinks, having to get UP and go to the front counter for our check, and then not bringing us our left overs, that we are probably never going back. It's time to find a new place, sadly.

The pizza was good but certainly not amazing. Some unsuspecting yelper wrote that this pizza was "amazing." That is certainly not the case. "Amazing" is a term reserved for exceptional things like the pizza from DiFara's in Midwood, Brooklyn; the 1969 New York Mets; when the NY Giants came from behing to beat the cheating Patriots in the 2008 Super Bowl; or when South Korea went to the semi-finals at the 2002 World Cup. Those things are amazing. This pizza is just good, and that's all. The pizza is not shaped like a pie; it's oblong. Real/fresh mozzarella is used for all of their pizzas. That's a huge plus because some places like Presto's and Brooklyn don't use fresh mozzarella on all of their pizzas. The crust is not dry; the sauce is well-seasoned; and the cheese is yummy. My only gripe is that while this place advertises brick-oven pizza, I don't think it actually is. Brick-oven pizza had two components: a true brick oven and coal or wood fired. This place uses gas, I believe. I could tell because the pizza wasn't charred at the bottom and it didn't have the same smoky-thin-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside crust. Pizza cooked in a true brick oven should be cooked with high heat (800 to 900 degrees) and cooks in two minutes or less. A regular oven can only reach 550 or so and takes ten minutes. They also take credit cards, another plus for a pizzeria. Pizzerias tend to only take cash because they want to avoid paying taxes to the state and the IRS. Damn tax cheaters. This place is doing the right thing by taking credit cards. So, if you want real brick oven pizza, you have to head over to Manhattan or Brooklyn. BTW, Manhattan does not allow anymore new coal-fired pizza brick-ovens. Only a few places have it because they were grandfathered into it.

This is the best pizza I've had in a long time. We get the margherita pizza and it is delicious!! I wish they delivered but unfortunately they just have take out and the restaurant. It is worth driving there to pick up this pizza. It is amazing and if you eat in the restaurant, the service is excellent! I highly recommend this restuarant!!

I have been coming to this place for quiet a while now and I have never had a bad meal. Pizza is really good, size is excellent and flavor is even better. The bread is good too. I know how difficult it is to find a nice restaurant in this area but if you are looking for fresh, flavorful, homemade Italian food this is your place.

100% certified authentic italiano. Oh yeah, they've got the huge portions, grandma-esque tableware, casual and no nonsense waiters, and all the Italian classics. There are plenty of pastas to choose from, and you've got all those familiar friends like orecchiette with broc rabe and sausage, but.... Dang That linguine bolognese is killer. It comes in a ceramic platter, and explodes with steam when you pull those first noodles up. Al dente to perfection and meat is sublime. Whoever made it knows their pasta! Then let's talk about the pizza. The crust is really good and their toppings were for the most part good as well. I ordered the eggplant, artichoke, prosciutto, mushroom pie, and while the eggplant and prosciutto were stellar the mushrooms and artichokes seemed kind of left-over tasting. This is a very minor detail though, and next time I'd probably just get a margarita with my own selection of toppings. I love that they use fresh mozz on all of their pies. I can't say much about their entrees yet; I'll have to try some more. The veal Parm was a bit of a dud since the meat was so so thin and I feel like I was eating a big platter of crust (albeit really good crust) with sauce and cheese. Gotta try some non-coated meats next time. Please also do yourself a favor and get the grilled octopus appetizer. The smokiness and tenderness is unreal, and it's definitely a dish that this place does better than any other Italian joint in jersey .

I am excited I tried something really tasty in my neighborhood. The service was outstanding; they followed up, they were able to give me options, and also took care of our left overs. the bread was delicious they served. The pizza we got was the commonly ordered pizza, but without the thin meat on it. I don't really like it. Ok, I don't think I have tried pizza in NYC that was this flavorful, fresh, tasty, and overall great flavor. The crust was like no other. The slices weren't too large and not too small. the Medium pizza was PERFECT for two people (we had left overs). I felt like we ate a lot and indeed it was delicious. I didn't have the pasta, but I will see it looked really good. I also enjoy the smells of everyone's food coming out. It was packed even for a late Monday evening on memorial weekend. I hope you enjoy this place as much as I did.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
